Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad, now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital, was given oxygen support on Sunday as his health condition deteriorated again, said his brother GM Quader.

"His (Ershad's) condition deteriorated this morning. Water developed in his lungs caused by infection," he said.

Briefing reporters at Jatiya Party chairman's Banani office in the evening, Quader also the party acting chairman, said his brother has been given oxygen support due to the respiratory problem, reports UNB.

He also said their chairman has also been given treatment for infections in different organs of his body.

Quader said the doctors at the CMH are very sincerely providing his brother with necessary treatment. "Doctors also think his proper treatment is possible at the CMH."

He, however, said they are ready to send Ershad to any country for better treatment if doctors suggest.

Replying to a question, the Jatiya Party acting chairman said the government has been bearing all the expenses of Ershad, who is the leader of the opposition in parliament.

Earlier on Saturday, Quader said his brother's condition improved by 50 per cent in the last three days.

Quader urged all to pray for the speedy recovery of his brother.
Ershad, former military ruler, was admitted to the CMH on Wednesday morning as his condition deteriorated.

The 89-year-old former military ruler has been suffering from various old age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver problem, high bilirubin and serious keen pain.

He became inactive in politics and was hardly seen in any programme since mid-November last due to his illness.

Ershad received treatment aboard and at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at different times over the last eight months.
