A Barguna court on Wednesday placed Aysha Siddika Minni, who was arrested on Tuesday night, on a 5-day remand in a case filed in connection with the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif, reports UNB.
Senior judicial magistrate court judge Md Sirajul Islam passed the order after investigation officer Humayun Kabir produced her before the court seeking a 7-day remand for interrogation.
Claiming herself innocent, Minni told the court that she is a victim of conspiracy and she was threatened by the accused several times.
She also sought justice for her husband.
In a statement, superintendent of police in Barugna, Maruf Hossain, said the interrogation of Aysha Siddika Minni and analysis of information she provided to the investigation officer appeared to show her involvement in the murder.
Rifat Sharif was killed in front of Barguna Government College in front of many people on 26 June. According to CCTV footages, Minni appeared to be trying to protect her husband.
Dulal Sharif, Rifat's father, however, later alleged that his daughter-in-law had an involvement with the murder and demanded her arrest.
Local people supported Dulal's claims and formed a human chain on 14 July demanding her arrest.
Police have so far arrested 14 people in connection with Rifat's murder.
