Minni tells father she said what police wanted

The main witness in the Rifat Sharif murder case, Aysha Siddika Minni, also wife of Rifat, told her father that she was coerced by police into making a confessional statement.

The police officials also threatened her with a fresh 10-day remand if she failed to oblige, alleged Aysha’s father Mozammel Hossain, quoting her. Mozammel revealed this to newsmen on Saturday after meeting his daughter at the gate of Barguna district jail.

Meanwhile, Rifat Farazi, one of the main accused in the murder of the Barguna youth Rifat Sharif, has confessed to his involvement with the crime to Barguna senior judicial magistrate Md Sirajul Islam Gazi on Saturday, said the case’s investigation officer Humayun Kabir.
Rifat Farazi was the 14th accused who made the confessional statement after the completion of his second spell of remand.

Rifat Farazi has become the main accused as the prime accused Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayan Bond was killed in what police called a gunfight with them on 2 July.
On 26 June, Rifat Sharif was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College.

The following day, the victim’s father Abdul Halim Sharif filed a lawsuit with Barguna police station against 12. Besides, four-five other unnamed people also were made accused in the case.

Police arrested Rifat Farazi on the night of 2 July, the day Nayan Bond was killed in the alleged gunfight.

Rifat Farazi is the son of the brother-in-law of Barguna zila parishad chairman Delwar Hossain.

Rifat’s younger brother Rishan Farazi has also been arrested in connection with the case.
