Jubo League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury on Wednesday slammed the law enforcement agencies for not arresting people associated with casinos all these days.

“You are saying there are 60 casinos. What were you doing about it until now? Arrest the (members of) police stations of the 60 places the casinos are located. Arrest the RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) members of those areas, too,” the chairman of ruling Awami League’s youth wing said.

Omar Faruk Chowdhury was addressing a council of Jubo League of several wards of Dhaka City (north) at Golartek ground in Darus Salam area of Mirpur in the afternoon.

"It is only normal that there will be punishment for committing crimes. But the question is, why arrest them now? Why didn’t you make the arrests before? You knew everything, didn’t you? Or, you were helping – we shall raise these questions now. I’m a criminal but what are you? Who are you to point finger at me?" blasted the Jubo League leader.

Agitated Omar Faruk Chowdhury further said, “You want to arrest me? Do it. I’m ready to be arrested for 100 times as I do politics. I committed crimes, but what about you? I won’t sit if you arrest me. You also have to be arrested because it is you who have pampered me.”

He also questioned the motive of the law enforcement agencies’ sudden steps.

"Why have you suddenly started taking actions? What’s the reason? Are you trying to depoliticise? Are you conspiring to make the party (Awami League) crippled? Conspiring to make (the party) inactive?"
