Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) vice president Nurul Haque Nur demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) in Gopalganj, after students of the university came under attack on Saturday.

He made the demand from a protest rally held at the base of Raju memorial, an anti-terrorism sculpture on the DU campus, condemning attacks on the students, reports news agency UNB.

Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad (Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council), the platform that led the quota reform movement last year, organised the rally.

In his speech, Nurul Haque Nur said even a culvert was demolished to bar students of the institute from entering the campus, and allow the attack on students by hired goons.

The DUCSU VP urged the Gopalganj administration to take steps against the VC as well as his administration that destroyed the image of the birth place of Bangabandhu adding that: “Such a VC has no moral right to stay in his post.”

Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council convener Hasan Al Mamun said: “We’ll go to Gopalganj expressing solidarity with the protesting students’ demand of the resignation of Khandokar Nasir Uddin and to announce him ‘unwanted’ there.”

Some 50 students of BSMRSTU were injured as outsiders swooped on them on Saturday after they continued demonstration seeking the removal of its VC defying an order to vacate halls of residence.
