Schoolboy killed, many feared trapped as building collapses in Narayanganj

The body of a schoolboy was retrieved while many others are feared trapped as a four-storey building collapsed in Babubail area of Narayanganj city on Sunday afternoon, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Shoeb, 7.

Witnesses said the building caved in around 4:30pm with a big bang.

Deputy assistant director of Narayanganj fire service and civil defence Abdullah Arefin said they pulled out the body of the boy from the debris and apprehended that many others have got trapped inside the building.

The building was constructed two years back on a canal reportedly without following the building code, said locals.

Six firefighting units along with divers have been working to rescue the trapped people, he said adding that the death toll may rise further.
