Man killed in 'gunfight' with police in B'baria

A Prothom Alo IllustrationA suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Jatrapur Chaporbari in Ashuganj upaizla early Wednesday, reports UNB.

The deceased is Saddam Hossain, 26, son of Kangal Mia of Sarail upazila.

Jabed Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Ashuganj police station, said they raided the area around 1:15am acting on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was there.

The criminals opened fire as soon as police reached the spot, triggering a skirmish.

At one stage, Saddam was caught in the line of fire while trying to flee the scene and died on the spot.

Four policemen were also injured in the gunfight.

Police arrested three people - Akash Mia, 27, Hridoy Mia, 25, and Ashraful Islam, 25 - from the spot.

A pistol, an auto-rickshaw and a motorbike were seized from the spot.
