A local Jubo League activist was killed as two Awami League factions engaged in a clash in Rajshahi on Wednesday over bagging a Bangladesh Railway tender, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Rasel Mia, 28, a Jubo League activist and the younger brother of AL leader Anwar Hossain Raja.

Chandrima police officer in-charge Golam Mustafa said followers of two leaders -- Anwar Hossain Raja, organising secretary of AL's Boalia thana unit, and Sujon, general secretary of Bangabandhu Sainik League's Rajshahi city unit - engaged in a brawl over bagging the tender at the head office of Bangladesh Railway's western zone.

At one stage, they engaged in a clash near the railway office around 2pm, leaving five people, including Raja and Rasel, injured. They were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where Rasel succumbed to his injuries around 5:30pm, OC said.
