The High Court (HC) on Wednesday ordered to stop production and display of laminated posters used in election campaign, reports BSS.

A High Court division bench comprising justice M Enayetur Rahim justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman passed the order, issuing a suo moto rule.

The court in its rule asked election commission, election commission secretary, LGRD secretary, industries secretary, health secretary, chief executive officers of two Dhaka city corporations and others to reply in four weeks as to why the court shall not order to stop production and display of laminated posters in the country.

The court came up with the order as Supreme Court lawyer Manoz Kumar Bhoumik drew court’s attention to a newspaper report on the threat caused by these laminated posters to environment.

The court also ordered to dispose the laminated posters, which have been produced already and in display, properly after election.
