BCS exams: Number of job seekers broke records

This year the number of job seekers, who registered themselves with the Public Service Commission to take the 35th Bangladesh Civil Service Examinations, has broke all previous records.

PSC examination controller AIM Nesaruddin said a total of 2,44,107 job seekers had dropped applications to sit for the tests to be recruited in government jobs.

PSC circulated a notice on September 23 to recruit Class I officers for 1803 vacant  posts. The last date of application submission was October 30.

According to the PSC annual report, a total of 2,21,575 applications were submitted for 34th BCS exams while 1,93,059 applications were dropped for 33rd BCS exams.

This year, 1,55,244 job seekers were registered under Dhaka centre, 21,873 under Rajshahi, 20,469 under Chittagong, 14,078 under Khulna, 5,729 under Barisal, 9,858 under Sylhet and 16,856 under Rangpur centres.  

Job seekers have to take a 200 mark preliminary exam with a duration of two hours.

The 200 marks will be distributed as follows: Bangla language and literature 35 marks, English language and literature 35 marks, Bangladesh affairs 30 marks, International affairs 20 marks, geography, environment and disaster management 10 marks, general knowledge 15 marks, computer and communication technology 15 marks, mathematical reasoning 15 marks, mental ability 15 marks, and ethics, values and good governance 10 marks.
