Say no to AL, BNP: Ershad

Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad on Thursday urged the people to reject the two main parties -- the Awami League and the BNP.

He was addressing the token mass hunger strike of his JP in front of the party’s Kakrail office to register its protest against the ongoing ‘violent politics’.

The hunger strike began at 11:00am and ended at 4:00pm.

Ershad said both parties always ignited fire of violence but never tried to douse it, neither would they be able to do so.

He said both the parties could not be trusted anymore and urged the people to support the Jatiya Party.

Ershad said there is a lack of democracy within both the parties (BNP and AL) and as a result, the country suffers from a lack of democracy.

Pointing to parliamentary politics, Ershad said both parties' democracy was limited to the parliament premises. "Only the Jatiya Party can establish democracy across the country," he said.

Criticising BNP's violence, Ershad said this cannot be goods means to go to power.

Pointing his finger at Khaleda Zia, Ershad said, "We saw in television, one is crying after losing her son, but there are many who are crying but we can't see them on television."

He urged Khaleda to shun politics of violence and said the country's people would not like any anti-people movement.

JP presidium member Sayed Abu Hossain Babla presided over the programme where party secretary general Ziauddin Bablu, party leader GM Qader, and other leaders also spoke.
