TIB calls for proper investigation into ex-army official killing

Condemning the killing of major (retd) Sinha Rashed Khan, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Wednesday urged the government to ensure proper investigation into the murder, reports UNB.

It also said that the killing of an ex-army official by police members is not an isolated incident, but an example of normalising the culture of extrajudicial killings, said a press release.

The Berlin-based organisation demanded that the safety of those students who were with Rashed and other potential witnesses at the scene must be ensured.

Since no acceptable investigation was carried out and legal actions were taken for the extrajudicial killings during the anti-drug drive it can be said with certainty that the law enforcement agencies of the country have got the license or impunity for the murder without trial, it said.

TIB expressed hope that the government will take effective steps to ensure a credible investigation into the incident and maximum legal protection for the three students who were colleagues of Rashed.
