Noted professor of Bangla at Dhaka University Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq said he does not want justice for his son Faisal Arefin (Dipan), who was hacked to death by assailants on Saturday.

“I don’t have any complaint against the killers of Dipan. I don’t want any justice. They should stay happy. I know, asking for justice won’t do any good,” said Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq.

Prof Abul Kashem had just recovered his son’s body from Dipan’s publishing house Jagriti Publications, where he was found lying dead on the floor.  Prof Abul Kashem was replying to the reporters, looking lost and confused. He answered calls on his mobile phone, saying “They have killed Dipan. Police have taken his body to the hospital.”

Asked about who are suspected to be involved in his son’s murder, Prof Abul Kashem said, “It is very clear. The people involved in the attack at Lalmatia, are the same who have killed Dipan. Avijit was a friend of Dipan.  Dipan had also published a book of Avijit.” He angrily said, “This is all about actions and reactions concerning religion. One side is supporting religion and the other side is supporting secularism. This is pushing the nation to the verge of destruction. The movements against militancy and fundamentalism will simply lead to further destruction.”

He said, “It would be better to simply practice politics of democracy and socialism, keeping away from religion and secularism.”
