Commerce secretary Md Jafar Uddin on Tuesday said the market will not face any crisis of onion now as the country has sufficient amount of onion stock, reports news agency BSS.

“The government is taking up all sorts of strategy to keep the price of onion at logical level... according to our information, domestic supply chain will remain normal,” he told the news agency.

He said just after India declared a ban on onion exports to Bangladesh, preparations are being taken as domestic supply chain of onion does not face any crisis.

The commerce secretary hoped if the onion supply chain can be kept normal, its prices will remain at logical level.

Jafar said India has been requested to withdraw the ban on onion exports while initiatives have been taken to import onion from alterative markets.

The Indian government on Monday banned exports of all types of onions to Bangladesh, citing a shortage in supply in India itself due to heavy rainfall and floods.
