ECNEC approves 11 projects involving Tk 80b

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved 11 development projects with an outlay of Tk 80.52 billion, including one for water supply and sanitation.

The Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) is entrusted with implementing the water supply and sanitation project for 30 Pourasabhas involving Tk 17.51 billion by June, 2023.
The approval came at the weekly meeting of the ECNCE held at NEC conference room in city’s Sher-e-Banglanagar with ECNEC chairperson and prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, planning minister MA Mannan said that of the total project cost of Tk 80.52 billion, the government would provide Tk 33.88 billion from the national exchequer.
He said the organizations concerned would contribute Tk 5.50 billion from own fund while the remaining Tk 41.13 billion would come as project assistance.
The prime minister has directed the authorities concerned to implement the projects without any delay, he said.
Planning division secretary Nurul Amin said the prime minister has given directives to extend the water supply and sanitation services to the Union Parishad level alongside the Pourasabha. She also ordered the officials concerned to calculate the cost for it, he added.
Nurul Amin also told newsmen the prime minister has asked the concerned department to construct restroom during the construction of highways. Roads and Highways Department would decide where the restroom would be constructed, he added.
At the ECNEC meeting, the prime minister congratulated Bangladesh Cricket Team and greeted the countrymen for the win against West Indies in the Cricket World Cup.
The other projects approved by the ECNEC are Netrokuna-Kendua-Atharbari-Shwarganj District Highway Development Project (Tk 7.10 billion), Security System Development of International Airports (Tk 590 million), Further Development Project of Dhaka University of Science and Technology (Tk 3.52 billion), Investment Component for Vulnerable Group Development Project (2nd phase, Tk 3.17 billion), Cumilla-Chandpur-Brahmanbaria District Irrigation Area Development (Tk 3.25 billion), Strengthening Poultry Research and Development (Tk 1.23 billion), Laboratory Installation for Quality Control of Animal Husbandry Equipment and Food (Tk 1.05 billion), Construction of Khulna 330 MW Duel Fuel Combine Cycle Power Plant (Tk 39.19 billion), Construction of Chemical Godowns (Tk 910 million) and BSCIC Park, Tangail Project (Tk 2.95 billion).
