Arrest warrant for actress Ishana

A Dhaka court on Tuesday issued a warrant for the arrest of model-turned-actress Mounita Khan Ishana in a defamation case for making ‘derogatory comments’ about a producer.

Metropolitan magistrate Meher Nigar Suchona issued the arrest warrant as the accused did not appear before the court in compliance with its earlier order, said process server of the court M Tofazzal.

Producer Maruf Khan filed the Tk 10 million defamation case with the Dhaka metropolitan magistrate’s court on 3 February.

Earlier, Maruf told Prothom Alo that Ishana did not follow the schedule and made derogatory comments about him on the set while shooting for a play titled ‘Sohojatri’, under the banner of his production house Arnima Vision.

Maruf said Ishana made bad remarks about him in presence of her co-stars on the set on 7 January.

Later, Ishana posted a status on her Facebook account about the incident.

Ishana said, “The producer used to lure me to go shopping and eating out with him. I was very uncomfortable with his offers. I heard he verbally abused another actress as she refused to have an affair with him.”

“At one point, he said I have to develop ‘friendship’ with him, otherwise I cannot go ahead. Eventually, I lost my temper and made bad comments on him,” she added.

Ishana said she decided to quit shooting the TV play. And, the producer threatened to sue her.
