Lux star Ishana sued

A defamation case has been filed against actress Mounita Khan Ishana for making alleged derogatory comments about a producer.

Producer Maruf Khan filed the Tk 10 million defamation case with the Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate’s court on 3 February.

He informed Prothom Alo on Sunday that former Lux-star Ishana did not follow the schedule and made derogatory comments about him on the set.

Ishana was shooting for a play titled Sohojatri, under the banner of Maruf’s production house Arnima Vision.

Maruf said Ishana made obscene comments about him in presence of her co-stars on the set on 7 January. Meanwhile, one of her co-stars recorded her comments.

Maruf said he immediately brought police on the set after hearing the audio clip.

"The police was ready to take Ishana to the police station. However, they left without taking Ishana to the police station as actress Dolly Johur intervened,” said Maruf.

Later, Ishana posted on her Facebook account about the incident.

Maruf said he decided to lodge a defamation case after he saw the post.

Ishana said, “The producer used to lure me to go shopping and eating out with him. I was very uncomfortable with his offers. I heard he verbally abused another actress as she refused to have an affair with him.”

“ At one point he said I have to develop ‘friendship’ with him, otherwise I cannot go ahead. Eventually I lost my temper and made bad comments on him,” she added.

Ishana said she decided to quit the drama and the producer threatened to sue her.

“I told him that I would expose him to the world. Then he said a woman cannot say such thing in public,” said Ishana.

Maruf said, “We have a video clip where Ishana apologized for her doings. I have gone to the court. Now the court will decide who is right and who is wrong.”
