Bangladesh Television (BTV) will open its official YouTube channel from 25 December on its 53rd founding anniversary.

Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will inaugurate the YouTube channel that will start with live-streaming.

Old TV plays like 'Kothao Keu Nei', 'Eishob Din Ratri', ' Bahubrihi', 'Dhakay Thaki' and others remain popular with the new generation viewers.

BTV has taken the initiative so viewers can watch all the episodes of those popular TV plays on YouTube.

The channel will have new programmes along with the old ones. 'Kothao Keu Nei', 'Bahubrihi', 'SangSaptak', 'Eishob Din Ratri' and 'Dhakay Thaki' have been uploaded on the channel primarily. Other shows from the BTV archive will be uploaded gradually.

All the programmes are being converted from the beta-cassette to video format for this purpose.

BTV general manager (Dhaka centre) Md Masudul Haque is in charge of the project.

BTV has taken this initiative to pass on Bangladesh's history, culture and traditions to the viewers through this technology, he said.

“We want to promote our country's progress and development. Social media will help us reach the maximum number of viewers in the shortest time,” said BTV director general SM Haroon Or Rashid.
