Fairy bluebirds flutter around the forests

It searches for food amidst the vegetation. The bird is distinctively active and often displays its acrobatics, much to our delight.

This is the Asian fairy bluebird.

The undertail areas of the bird’s body are sheer blue while the remaining parts are pitch black and it has bright red eyes.

The adult female has a bluish green head and body. The female bird has paler eyes that are mostly orange-red.

The adult male has blue and black plumage. Their forehead, face, head and sides of the neck and chin are black. The central crown and nape are blue.

The sweet whistle of fairy bluebirds sounds like“weet weet” or “tui-wit-weet”, quite familiar to us.

Fairy bluebirds live in hilly areas and roam in flocks of four to 12 birds.

The birds feed mainly on fruits such as berries, figs and ficus and nectar from flowers. The bird can easily imitate other birds’ chirpings.

They weave nests on tree branches from winter to summer.
