The Rajshahi University (RU) authority has decided to admit the candidates, who are children or grand-children of the university teachers and staff (ward quota), even if they could not secure the minimum marks to pass the entrance examinations, reports UNB.

According to the admission circular, the admission seekers must secure 40 marks out of 100 in the admission test to get admitted to the university.

However, according to the new decision, the admission seekers under the ward quota, who secured 30 out of 100 marks in the entrance exams, would be able to get admitted at the university.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the admission test sub-committee on Monday. University vice-chancellor (VC) professor Golam Sabbir Sattar chaired the meeting.

Professor Abdul Alim, dean of agriculture faculty, said a number of students cancel their admission at the university and get admitted to other universities. As a result, hundreds of seats are left vacant each year, he said.

“We have decided to include the admission seekers under ward quota to fill the vacant seats who secured at least 30 out of 100 marks in the entrance exams.” professor Abdul Alim added.

A total of 127,647 applicants across the country applied for the RU admission test against around 4,137 seats in 59 departments and 2 institutes under three units, this year.
