SSC level: No group separation from next year
The students will not have to choose one of the science, humanities, and commerce groups in class nine from the next academic year as the authorities are all set to introduce a uniform curriculum until the higher secondary level.
The education ministry has formally extended its approval for the issuance of a notification in this regard, through a letter to the secondary and higher education division on Monday.
The authorities have introduced a new curriculum at classes one, six, and seven this year and will bring classes two, three, eight, and nine under the curriculum next year. It will be introduced in the remaining classes in 2025.
The government aims at providing uniform education to the students until the higher secondary level.
In 2020, prime minister Sheikh Hasina said there is no need for group separation in class nine, and all students can take up the same subjects up to the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) level.
"I think that there is no need to have this (group) separation at all," she said while distributing the Prime Minister Gold Medal-2018 to 172 students from public and private universities for their outstanding academic achievements.
The prime minister further said many countries, including the USA, do not have this kind of group separation. She said Ayub Khan introduced this system in 1963. "I think it's better to not have this."
