Shahidul Islam alias Shahid, the convicted killer of Scholastica student Shazneen Tasnim Rahman,was hanged at Kashimpur high security central jail in Gazipur on Wednesday night.
The verdict was executed around 9:45pm, said senior jail super Mizanur Rahman, reports UNB.
Earlier in the day, five relatives of Shahid, including his brother Mahidul Islam, met him at the jail in the afternoon, said jail sources.
On 2 August last year, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Shahid, a domestic help of Shazneen’s house, and acquitted four convicts in the sensational murder case.
On 23 April 1998, Shazneen, a Class-IX student of Scholastica in the capital and daughter of Transcom Group chairman Latifur Rahman, was murdered at her house.
On 2 September 2003, the women and children repression prevention tribunal judge Kazi Rahmatullah handed down death penalty to six accused for their involvement in planning and executing the murder.
On 10 July 2006, the High Court upheld the death penalty of five convicts and acquitted carpenter Shaniram Mandal of the charges.
Later, four of the convicts filed a leave-to-appeal with the Supreme Court against the High Court order that was granted by the Appellate Division on 26 April 2009.
