Petition to file case against Bashundhara Group chairman, MD among 8

An appeal has been made to file a case on charges of murder after rape of college student Musharrat Jahan against 8 people including Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and managing director Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

Victim's sister Nusrat Jahan on Monday applied to the court of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 in Dhaka for taking the complaint into cognizance.

The court has recorded the statement of the plaintiff.

The tribunal's public prosecutor Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo.

The appeal also seeks to file case against Ahmed Akbar Sobhan's wife Afroza Sobhan, Anvir's wife Sabrina, Sharmin, Saifa Rahman Mim, so called model Faria Mahbub Piyasha and Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Rezaul Karim said plaintiff Nusrat Jahan filed the petition for granting the case on charges of murder after rape of college student Musharrat Jahan under Section 302 of CrPC under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The body of Musharrat Jahan Munia was recovered on 26 April, hanging in an apartment rented in Gulshan.

In connection with the incident, Nusrat Jahan filed a case with the Gulshan police station.

Sayem Sobhan Anvir, managing director of Bashundhara Group, was made accused on charges of instigating suicide.

Police submitted a final report to the court in July.

On 18 August, Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate court accepted the final report.

Sayem Sobhan was acquitted of the case through this order of court.
