NSU not the only factor instigating militancy: VC
North South University vice chancellor professor Atiqul Islam said NSU is not the only factor instigating recent militancy.
He was speaking at a press conference at the university on Monday.
He said a student spends maximum nine to twelve hours on the campus per week. They spend rest of their times at different places. There are internet and electronic media, which could motivate them to adopt this way.
NSU’s name has come up in connection with some incidents, however, this university could not be the only factor to instigate millitancy, he added.
Regarding engineer Hasnat Karim, who was a hostage in the Gulshan café attack, the VC said Hasnat Karim quit his job from this institution in August, 2012 for his family business.
The VC said there were no allegations against Hasnat Karim.
He also said, “Nibrash was a BBA student of 2011-2012 academic year in NSU. Later, he left for Malaysia after completing three semesters here.”
“We cannot deny our student’s involvement in Sholakia attak. We are looking into it,” he added.
The VC said the university asked for information about irregular students from the concerned departments.
The university authorities have decided that no student can drop a semester from now on without prior permission.
