Robot Olympiad: Bangladesh bags gold

Participants from Bangladesh have grabbed a gold medal among 10 others at the 21st International Robot Olympiad 2019 held in Thailand on 16 and 20 December.

The list includes two silvers, six bronzes and one medal in technical category at the 2019’s edition of the Olympiad.

The team of Mir Umaiya Haque and Abrar Shahid Rahik clinched gold in creative category while Kazi Mustahid Labib, Nashitat Zainah Rahman and Rafiat Saleh bagged two silver medals for challenge groups.

The teams of Zabia Musarrat and Zahra Mahzabin Pubali; Sani Zubaer, Kazi Mustahid Labib and Nashitat Zainah Rahman; Rafihat Saleh and Tafsir Tahrim; Salwa Mehrin and Tashrik Ahmed; Mohamamd Zarif Mahbub Talukdar and Hab Sarah Ahmed and Tafsir Tahrim won bronze medals in different categories.

Mir Umaima Haque and Abrar Shahid Rahik won the medal in technical category as well.

Participants from 14 countries participated in the Olympiad. A Bangladesh team of 15 members competed in the international event.
About the successes of the Bangladeshi participants, president of the Robot Olympiad Lafifa Jamal told Prothom Alo that this is the result of intensive training.

She thanked state minister for information and communication technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak and his ICT Division for their cooperation.

Prior to the national level event at Dhaka University, activation programmes were arranged at 50 educational institutions in 25 districts. More than 4000 students joined the countrywide event.

A total of 379 participants from 136 institutions from 21 districts attended the national event.

The winners of the national level competitors were later trained for the international competition.

ICT Division, bKash, Rupali Bank, Sirena Technologies, EMK Centre, Daffodil International School, Amber IT Ltd, Nagorik TV, Dhaka FM, Kishore Alo and Bigyanchinata provided support for the Bangladesh participation.
