Students on streets for 7th day

Students started to gather in different streets of the capital for seventh consecutive day on Saturday morning on demand of safe roads and justice for death of two of their fellows in a road accident on 29 July.

The movement sparked off after the shipping minister Shajahan Khan smilingly compared the Dhaka airport road accident with the one in India, which killed 33 people, while talking to newsmen within one hour of the crash.

No public transports except the state-owned Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) buses with fewer other vehicles were seen in the city.

Over 20 students of Wills Little Flower School took to the street of city’s Shantinagar intersection area around 10:40am. Also, a group of student gathered in front of Abul Hotel in Malibagh.

The students of Bir Sreshtha Noor Mohammad Rifles Public School and College gathered in Jhigtala intersection area in the morning.

Students, divided into small groups, were seen checking driving license and other documents halting vehicles at Mirpur section-10 intersection in the morning.

Transport workers refrained from operating city bus services fearing vandalism, the owners and workers said.

People continued to suffer in the capital and elsewhere in the country as long-route bus services remain suspended for the second consecutive day on Saturday protesting alleged vandalism of vehicles during the ongoing student movement for safe road.
