Three lynched on suspicion of stealing cattle

Three men were beaten to death by a mob on suspicion they were trying to steal cattle in Prembagh village in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore early Monday.

Police, unable to identify the victims immediately, said the three were aged between 35 to 45 years.

According to police and locals, some people attempted to steal three cows from the house of a certain Khorshed Ali in Gaidgachhi village of the upazila around 4:00am when the owner came to see them.

The villagers chased them after an announcement had been made from the mosque.

According to a number of locals, the mob chased them for almost one and half a kilometres and managed to seize them near Mazumdarpara Rail Crossing.

Two men were beaten to death on the spot and the other one died on the way to a hospital.

Abhaynagar police station’s officer-in-charge Md Tajul Islam said, three people were lynched over the suspicion of cattle theft. Three cows were recovered at the time.
