JCD leaders made these statements at a rally organised to protest the remarks of IGP and DMP chief about Khaleda Zia.
The protest rally was held at the foot of Raju Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus on Tuesday.
JCD university unit organised it. Earlier, a demonstration procession was brought out from the Madhur Canteen. It paraded different streets of the campus and ended at Razu Sculpture where the rally was held.
Speaking as the chief guest, JCD central general secretary Iqbal Hossain said, "Our police force first put up a resistance at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the liberation war of 1971. Police had a glorious role all the time."
However, the incumbent IGP and DMP commissioner have created anarchy in the police force for the sake of their personal benefits, he said adding they wearing police uniform are making political statements to hide their misdeeds.
Iqbal Hossain, "The student community will not accept the indecent remarks on former prime minister Khaleda Zia. JCD along with the student community will resist partisan police."
IGP Benazir Ahmed and DMP commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam addressed an event organised by Police Service Association at Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium on 26 March.
Indicating BNP, Benazir Ahmed said, "Leaders of a political party are hiring lobbyists to impose sanctions on the country's economy, writing letters to stop GSP. You people are in politics for the people, yet you declare war against the people. You are acting against the people. Who are you? What do you want?"
At the event, DMP commissioner Shafiqul Islam bitterly criticised BNP for terming BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia as the 'first woman freedom fighter'.
"What could be more ridiculous … She who was forsaken by her husband, who asked what she had done at the Pakistan … Now she is supposedly a top freedom fighter. I should not speak further," said Md Shafiqul Islam.
While presiding over the rally, DU unit JCD convener Md Raqibul Islam said, "Police force played a strong role in the liberation war. But that police force has been turned into a puppet of fascist illegal Awami League government. DMP commissioner has given an audacious statement about Begum Khaleda Zia. We demand the withdrawal of the statement and call upon to refrain from politicising the police force. Otherwise, the people will bring these officials under the accountability."
DU JCD unit member secretary Md Amanullah Aman moderated the rally. Among others, JCD senior vice-president Kazi Raunoqul Islam and vice-president Mamun Khan, joint secretary Karim Prodhan and Maruf Elahi attended the rally.
