Terming bureaucracy as good, planning minister M A Mannan on Tuesday said there is no alternative to bureaucracy and nobody could figure out its replacement.

“Even, Soviet Union could not find out the alternative to bureaucracy. Pharaoh either failed to do so,” he said this in a press briefing following a meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

MA Mannan further said, “I myself was a junior bureaucrat once. I am still a senior bureaucrat by heart. I have spent the significant moments of my life in bureaucracy."

"The training center for the bureaucrats in Savar will be modernised. There will be a 20-storey building. I hope the pace of their work will be modernized too,” the minister added.

Tuesday’s ECNEC meeting approved the Training Capacity Enhancement (1st Amendment) project of BPATC. At the time of first approval, the cost of the project was Tk 8.9 billion. Now it has increased to Tk 12.7 billion.
