Export falls to nine-month low in May

Twenty-three of the 51 Bangladesh missions abroad have failed to achieve respective export targets for the first eight months (July-February) of the current fiscal (2013-14).

The country exported goods worth US dollars 3.83 billion in May, which is the lowest in nine months.

The Exports Promotion Bureau (EPB) revealed these statistics on Thursday.

According to EPB statistics, Bangladesh exported goods of US dollars 47.17 billion in the first 11 months of the current fiscal (July-May), which is higher by 34.9 per cent than that of last year.

The current fiscal is going to set a record in the history of the country's export earnings even though last month, May, drew the lowest figure. Exports will exceed USD 50 billion this fiscal. In the 2018-19 fiscal, the country drew the highest export earnings worth USD 40.53 billion.

The readymade garment (RMG) sector ranked first in exports, bringing USD 38.52 billion to the country in the first 11 months of the fiscal, which is higher by 34.87 per cent than that of last year.
