DU terminates five teachers

Dhaka University (DU) authorities have terminated its five teachers for not joining the work on expiry of their study leave, reports UNB.

They are associate professors Muhammad Mujibul Kabir of Finance department, Mosammet Asma Jahan of Accounting and Information Systems department and Md Sohel Samsuzzaman of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department; assistant professor Sanwar Uddin Ahmad of Mathematics department and lecturer Ayesha Zaman of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department.

Beside, two employees of the university were also dismissed. Ajit Chandra Bhowmik of Engineering department faced the action for his alleged involvement in unethical activities while Md Kamruzzaman for irregularities in attendance.

The decision was taken on Wednesday night at a meeting of the DU Syndicate, the highest decision-making body of the university, with DU vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

Confirming the matter, professor ASM Maksud Kamal, DU Teachers’ Association (DUTA) president and a syndicate member, said the teachers were terminated from their posts as they did not join the work after the end of their study leave.
