
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has dropped graft charges against former Petrobangla chairman Professor Hossain Monsur.
ACC sources said the commission has cleared Hossain Monsur of corruption and irregularity charges over the recruitment in the Karnaphuli Gas Field Company Limited.
After an ACC probe, the commission recommended filing a case against six persons, including Hossain Monsur. However, his name was finally dropped from the case.
Hossain Monsur was acquitted in an ACC meeting on Tuesday, sources said.
According to the sources, a case will soon be filed against Sanwar Hossain Chowdhury, managing director of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd, deputy director general Amir Hamza, former director Abdullah Al Mamun, director general (administration) Chowdhury Ahsan Habib and former managing director Jamil Ahmed Aleem.
Contacted, ACC Commissioner (Investigation) M Sahabuddin told Prothom Alo the commission has decided to file a case against five persons.
Hossain Monsur is not included in the case, Sahabuddin added.
