
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson's adviser and former chief whip of parliament Syed Wahidul Alam died at a city hospital on Sunday night.
He was 73.
Alam, who had been receiving treatment for various diseases at the capital's Central Hospital, Dhanmondi, breathed his last around 8:00pm, BNP chairperson's media wing member Sairul Kabir Khan told UNB.
Sairul Said his first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the South Plaza of parliament at 11:00am on Monday and the second one in front of BNP's Naya Paltan central office in Dhaka around 12:00 noon.
Alam is survived by two daughters -- lawyers Shakila Farjana and Aklima Farjana -- and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his demise.
Later, his body will be taken to his village home in Chattogram's Hathazari. He will be buried there at his family graveyard following the third namaz-e-janaza.
BNP senior vice-chairman Tareq Rahman and its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam expressed deep shock at his death.
In a condolence message, they prayed for salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile, Fakhrul, BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman and standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury went to the hospital hearing the news of Aalm's demise.
They also talked to his family members and consoled them.
Alam had been involved with BNP since its foundation. He was elected MP thrice from Hathazari constituency and made chief whip of parliament after BNP formed government in 2001.
