
National cricketer Shahadat Hossain was sent to jail on Sunday in a case relating to the torture on his domestic help.
Earlier, he surrendered to the Dhaka sessions judge court on Monday morning and sought bail.
The judge, Yusuf Hossain, however, passed the order, asking authorities concerned to send him to jail.
In the same case, the police arrested Shahadat’s wife Jesmine Jahan alias Nrittya Shahadat from Malibagh in Dhaka on Saturday night.
The police on Sunday sought five days' police remand for her but the court asked the police to quiz her at the jail gate.
Shahadat and his wife were sued under women and children repression prevention act allegedly for torturing their domestic help, 11-year-old Mahfuza Akhter Happy.
The case was filed with Mirpur police station last month.
