Six govt projects singled out for top priority execution

The government on Wednesday singled out six fast track projects, directing the authorities concerned for their immediate implementation, said prime minister’s deputy press secretary.
The decision was taken in the first meeting of the reshuffled Fast Track Project Monitoring Committee held in the prime minister’s office.
The six projects that will receive top priority are Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Rampal Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant, Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project or Metro Rail, Sonadia Deep Sea Port in Cox’s Bazar and Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal Construction Project.
Committee chairperson Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
The prime minister’s deputy press secretary, Bijoy Lal Dev, briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said, in the meeting, the prime minister underscored the need of river dredging to keep river erosion in check during the implementation of Padma Multipurpose Bridge.
She hoped the government would soon be able to generate electricity in a joint venture with India, Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar.
Finance minister AMA Muhith, shipping minister Shahjahan Khan, environment and forests minister Anwar Hossain Monju, land minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, prime minister’s adviser Mashiur Rahman, state minister for science and technology architect Yafes Osman, and state minister for power Nasrul Hamid attended the meeting.
Prime minister’s principal secretary Shaikh Wahid Uz Zaman and PMO secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, among others, were present in the meeting.
