Today is the 105th birthday of the late novelist and short story writer Shawkat Osman.
On the occasion, a programme will be held at 5:00pm on Sunday at Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum here. Science and Technology Affairs minister Yeafesh Osman will attend it as the chief guest.
Born in Hughli, West Bengal in 1917, he received Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1962, Ekushey Padak in 1983 and Independence Day Award in 1997.
His well-known novels include Janani, Kritadaser Hasi, Samagam, Chaurasandhi, Raja Upakhyan, Jahannam Haite Biday, Dui Sainik, Nekre Aranya, Patanga Pinjar, Artanad, Jolangi and Rajsakkhi.
Shawkat breathed his last in Dhaka on 14 May in 1998.
