BCB sends letter to BCCI to improve relations

The crisis between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) began after Mustafizur Rahman was excluded from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Subsequently, Bangladesh did not participate in the T20 World Cup in India due to security concerns, further straining relations between the boards.

Now, the BCB has taken the initiative to improve ties with the BCCI. In a recent letter, BCB proposed exploring whether additional initiatives beyond the upcoming series between the two countries could be introduced.

Confirming the letter, BCB’s Cricket Operations Chief Nazmul Abedeen told Prothom Alo that this is part of regular communication between the two boards.

“We have a series ahead for our men’s team. Last year, there was a planned women’s tour that was postponed. We reached out to see if anything new could be arranged in the time in between,” he said on Friday.

Relations between the two boards soured over the exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman from IPL

The news of BCB’s letter has also been reported by multiple Indian media outlets, which view it as an effort to foster better relations with BCCI. However, the BCCI has not yet provided any formal response to the letter.

Bangladesh’s women’s team was scheduled to tour India for a three-match T20 and a three-match ODI series in December last year, as part of the FTP (Future Tour Programmes). The series was cancelled due to strained relations between the two countries.

Earlier, in August that year, India’s national team was scheduled to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20s. However, the tour was postponed roughly two months in advance, and rescheduled to September 2026.
