Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of the Homecoming Day of the architect of the country's independence, reports UNB.
She paid the tributes placing wreaths at the portrait of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi of the capital in the morning.
The prime minister stood there in solemn silence for some time showing deep respect to Bangabandhu.
Flanked by ministers and central leaders of Bangladesh Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, on behalf of her party, placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu as its president.
Later, leaders of Awami League's associate bodies, including Juba League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Sramik League, Mohila Awami League, Swechchhasebak League, Krishak League and different socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the portrait of the great leader.
Bangabandhu returned to independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi on 10 January 1972 after 290 days of captivity in a Pakistan jail.
