An audio clip in which axed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) general secretary Golam Rabbani is speaking to Jahangirnagar University's BCL unit joint secretary Saddam Hossain about taking Tk 10 million from JU vice chancellor Farzana Islam has gone viral on social media.

BCL is the student wing of ruling Awami League.

In the telephonic conversation, Saddam Hossain was heard telling Golam Rabbani that JU VC Farzana Islam had distributed Tk 10 million to BCL leaders and he, himself, received Tk 2.5 million as his share.

A group of JU students has been protesting on the campus bringing allegations of corruption against VC Farzana Islam in the university's 14.45 billion development project.

Describing the allegation brought against her in a letter sent to prime minister Sheikh Hasina by Golam Rabbani as propaganda, professor Farzana Islam on Saturday challenged them to prove it. She also urged the chancellor of the university and the University Grants Commission to prove the allegation to unearth the facts.

She said although BCL president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and Rabbani claimed that Tk 16 million was given to the university unit of BCL, they had failed to mention anything about their demand for '4 to 6 per cent' commission from the university's development project.

JU unit Samajtantrik Chhatra Front's organising secretary, Shovon Rahman, said, "Why didn't VC disclose that central BCL leaders demanded extortion from her? Why didn't she take legal steps? Is she trying to hide her corruption, blaming others? We want her answers."

Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote publicity and publication secretary, Maruf Bin Mozammel, demanded fair inquiry into the corruption allegations raised against VC Farzana.
