The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has appointed an acting provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall, a dormitory for female students, yielding to students’ protest against the incumbent official, reports UNB.

University vice-chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed confirmed the appointment to the news agency on Friday afternoon.

Jobeda Konak Khan, associate professor in the Department of Genetic Engineering, will replace Zafrin Ahmed Liza, who is on a sick leave.

“The acting provost must work for the students,” said VC.

He also said SUST administration is always ready to provide all kinds of facilities to the students of the university. “We do not want any student to be deprived of their rights.”

On Thursday night, the students of the female dormitory called on Provost Zafrin Ahmed Liza to apprise her of their problems about accommodation. But the students alleged that she misbehaved with them.

The agitated students immediately staged a protest at the hall and then outside the official residence of SUST vice-chancellor, demanding provost Zafrin’s resignation and public apology, as well as resolution of their long-standing issues.
