‘BSF shoots two Bangladeshis dead’
Two young men, found dead near Masudpur frontier on Tuesday, were killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF), locals claimed.
The deceased are Mohammad Milon, 22, son of Kalu Mohammad, a resident of Tarapur Mandalpara village, and Senarul Islam, 24, son of Afsar Hossain, of Tarapur Thutapara village in Monkosha union.
“BSF troopers of Shobhapur camp opened fire on a gang of smugglers entering India around 3:00am. Milon died on the spot and Senarul suffered gunshot wounds,” said local Union Parishad member Habibur Rahman.
Their associates carried back Milon’s body and injured Senarul from the border but the latter succumbed to his injuries, the UP member said.
Police recovered Milon’s body from a bamboo grove in Tarapur area and Senarul’s body from Chandshikari area, said Selim Reza, officer-in-charge of Shibganj Upazila.
BGB-53 battalion commanding officer lieutenant colonel Sajjad Sarwar said that the youth were members of a smuggling gang.
“It is unclear whether they were killed in BSF firing or in an internal clash,” he said. “We’re investigating the matter.”
