4 Keraniganj brick kilns fined, over 200 demolished
In a drive in Kandapara area of Keraniganj, a mobile court fined four brick kilns Tk 2,200,000 and bulldozed over 200 kilns on Sunday for operating without permission, reports UNB.
The mobile court, led by executive magistrate Maksudul Islam of Department of Environment (DoE), conducted the drive in South Keraniganj’s Kandapara area on Sunday at 11am and fined four brick kilns for operating illegally.
Brick kiln owners Abul Kashem, Ataur Rahman and Sujon Mia were fined Tk 600,000 each while Siraj Mia was fined Tk 400,000 by the mobile court.
Additionally, 200 brick kilns out of 250 in Keraniganj were bulldozed during the drive as they were operating without permission of DoE.
“The brick kilns were fined as they operated within one kilometre of locality, school and colleges without any clearance from DoE. The brick kilns were evicted so they cannot resume operation later,” said Maksudul Islam.
