ACC summons Basir, DIG Mizanur for questioning

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday ordered its director Enamul Basir and deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman to appear before it on 1 July for interrogation, reports UNB.

A three-member ACC team, led by director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafilla, is investigating allegation brought against them.

Basir was suspended on 10 June for allegedly leaking information, a breach of job discipline.

According to a report ran by a private TV channel, Basir demanded Tk 4 million as bribe ahead of a search against DIG Mizanur.

He took Tk 2.5 million from Mizanur and sought the rest within the next week. He demanded a car for his son and disclosed important information regarding ACC.

A three-member inquiry committee was formed after the report was broadcast. After reviewing the committee's findings, ACC suspended Basir on charges of illegally transmitting the ACC data and violating job discipline.

On 3 May last year, the ACC interrogated the DIG in connection with accumulation of illegal wealth. The commission also reportedly found his involvement in money laundering.
