AL candidate Jebunnesa wins Barisal-5 by-elections

Awami League candidate Jebunnesa Afroz won the Barisal-5 (sadar) by-elections defeating her nearest opponent Bangaldesh Nationalist Front (BNF) candidate Saiful Islam by one lakh 77 thousand 493 votes.

Jebunnessa, widow of former lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron, got 1,83,629 votes at while her opposition Saiful Islam got only 6,136 votes.

A total of 55.81% votes were cast, confirmed returning officer, Md Shahidul Alam, also the deputy commissioner, while announcing the results.

The constituency became vacant after its lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron died on April 9.
