
Ekushey Padak winner Baul (folk singer) Karim Shah died in Kushtia on Tuesday morning. He was 90.
He breathed his last at his residence in Chaurhash area of the district about 8:30am. He had been suffering from respiratory complications for a long time.
Karim Shah received the Ekushey Padak as a folk singer in the arts category in 2011. He performed stage-show programmes in different places both at home and abroad.
Karim Shah was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital with breathing complications on April 19.
Doctors referred taking him to Dhaka for better treatment, but his family did not have the financial support for that.
Karim Shah sought financial help from the government for his better treatment after a Prothom Alo reporter went to visit him on May 6.
Kushtia deputy commissioner Syed Belal Hossain visited Karim Shah and handed over a cheque worth Tk 10,000 on May 6.
Later he was brought to Dhaka for treatment in the help of the Social Welfare Directorate.
Recently he returned home after receiving treatment.
