BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday.
The former Chhatra Dal president, who was convicted for BDR mutiny in 2008, has been serving life term at the jail.
Director at the hospital Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin said Pintu has been taken to the emergency department of the RMCH at 12:10pm. He (Pintu) was then dead, the RMCH director added.
Asked about the reasons behind the former lawmaker’s death, the hospital director said he did not know anything. He assumed Pintu might have been died in jail or on the way to hospital.
The body of the deceased was kept at the hospital’s morgue.
