Former finance minister and Awami League leader Shah AMS Kibria murder incident has stepped into its ten years on Tuesday but its trial has not been initiated yet. He died in a grenade attack at an Awami League rally on 27 January at Baidderbazar of Habiganj district.
Lawyer of the plaintiff Alamgir Bhuiyan Babul said the case will be shifted to Sylhet divisional speedy trial tribunal from Habiganj court. The trial will be settled within 90 working days from then, he expected.
Reza Kibria, son of SAMS Kibria, told Prothom Alo that his family is contended with the last charge sheet but they want to identify the masterminds behind the killing. He wondered that trial for such a renowned person's murder case took ten years to begin.
Four other AL leaders and activists died and 70 others were injured in the attack. District Awami League organising secretary Abdul Mazid Khan had filed the case as a plaintiff soon after the attack .
Assistant superintendent of police (Criminal Investigation Department- CID) Munshi Atiqur Rahman submitted a charge sheet against ten accused in 20 March 2005.
The accused are the then vice president of Habiganj district BNP Abdul Kaiyum, bank officer Ayat Ali, painter Kazal Mia, assistant office secretary of district BNP Selim Ahmed, school teacher Shahed Ali and Tajul Islam, Lashkarpur BNP leader Jamir Ali, post ofiice peon Joynal Abedin Momin, Chhatra Dal leader Mahibur Rahman and Joynal Abedin Jalal.
In a supplementary charge sheet submitted by assistant superintendent of police (CID) Rafiqul Islam on 20 June 2011, 16 new people were accused in the case. The investigation officer also found out a connection of Harkat Ul Jihad (Huji) in the attack.
These time the accused were listed as former state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar, the Huji leaders Mufti Hannan, Maulana Tajuddin, Mufti Shafiqur Rahman, Mufti Abdul Hai, Abu Jandal, Mohib Ullah Avi, Sharif Shahedul Alam Bipul, Hafiz Syed Nayeem Ahmed Arif alias Nimu, Badrul Alam Mizan, Mizanur Rahman Mithu, Abul Mazed Butt, Delwar Hossain, Mohammad Ali, Hasan Ullah and Yousuf Bin Sharif.
Assistant superintendent of police (CID) Meherun Nesa started working as the fifth investigation officer of the case on 20 March 2012. She submitted another supplementary charge sheet to the court on 13 November last year. She mentioned nine people totaling the number at 35.
This time, the accused are mentioned as Haris Chowdhury, political adviser to former premier Khaleda Zia, BNP leader Ariful Haque Chowdhury, district BNP secretary general Golam Kibria Gous alias GK Gous, Moulana Tazuddin's brother-in-law Hafiz Mohammad Yahya, Abu Bakar Karim, Delwar Hossain Ripon, Sheikh Farid, Abdul Jalil and Sheikh Abdus Salam. Ariful Haque and GK Gous are in prison and ten others including Haris Chowdhury are absconding among them.
The court has taken the last charge sheet into cognizance since the plaintiff did not raise any objection to it.
