National Flag Hoisting Day being observed

Dhaka University is observing the National Flag Hoisting Day on Friday with due respect.

On this day in 1971, the national flag of a yet-to-be independent Bangladesh was raised at a massive students gathering on Dhaka University campus.

A specially designed national flag, with a yellow map of Bangladesh inside the red disc at the centre of a green ambience, was hoisted amid cheers of the spirited students.

The then Dhaka University Central Students Union [DUCSU] vice president ASM Abdur Rab hoisted the national flag of Bangladesh on behalf of Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishad atop the DU Arts building.

Marking the day, the Dhaka University vice-chancellor professor Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated a programme at the historic Bottala premises adjacent to the Arts building, reports UNB.

A discussion will be held on the significance of the day and patriotic songs will be performed at the programme.
