Truck helper killed in Pirojpur bridge collapse

A helper of a truck was killed as two trucks plunged into a canal after breaking a bridge at Gujighata on the Pirojpur-Mathbaria road in Mathbaria upazila on Wednesday morning.


Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.

Officer-in-charge of Mathbaria Police Station Mustafizur Rahman said two stone-laden trucks were going to Mathbaria in the morning.

When the two vehicles reached a bridge at Gujighat, the bridge collapsed as it could not bear the weight of the trucks around 6:30am, leaving a helper of one of the trucks dead on the spot.

However, the drivers of the trucks managed to flee the scene, the OC added.
