Woman allegedly commits suicide to escape torture for dowry
A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself after being tortured reportedly by her husband for dowry at Sonatundi village in Sreepur upazila of Magura on Friday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Jasmine Nahar, 20, wife of a certain Rentu Molla, 30 of the village.
Police recovered the hanging body of Jasmine from her house on Friday night, said Sreepur police officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman.
Quoting local people the OC said Abdul Aziz of Sadar upazila married off her daughter Jasmine with Rentu seven months ago.
Rentu had been demanding Tk. 200,000 as dowry and used to torture Jasmine for the money. Local people tried to resolve the issue several times through arbitration meeting but failed.
A case was filed in this regard.
